The Newton County Recreation Commission will continue throughout the week to ask local businesses and community residents to sponsor holes in the inaugural Charter Charity Golf Classic to benefit the Miracle League of Newton County.

The tournament is scheduled rain or shine from 10 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. June 9 at the Oak Golf Course on Crowell Road.

The tournament has a "best-ball" format for teams of four. A couple of team spots remain open for the tournament, which is sponsored by Charter Communications.

"Various silent auction items will be available including autographed material from Calvin Johnson," said Adrienne Swinton, Charter sales and marketing manager, of the Detroit Lion star’s signature. "Lunch and dinner will also be provided for each foursome or sponsor."

Hole-in-one prizes are just as impressive as accomplishing the feat.

"One is for $10,000 sponsored by PROforma AdMark," Swinton said.

All proceeds from the tournament will go toward the construction of a Miracle League field in Newton County. Miracle League caters to athletes with disabilities as the fields are specially designed and rubberized and incorporates a buddy system that pairs normal ability children with those with special needs.

Hole sponsorships for the Charity Golf Classic are $100 and the cost for a team of four to play is $400. For more information or to register, call Adrienne Swinton at (770) 806-7062.
