Newton shines at state FFA Convention

Eighty-six Newton County FFA members recently attended the Georgia FFA State Convention in Macon.  FFA members received numerous accolades while in attendance. 

Dos Harper was named the North Region Star in Agriscience.  Dos Harper also placed 1st in his Agriscience Proficiency Application.  Allen Miller placed 2nd in Nursery Landscape.  Ava Jane Teasley placed 2nd in Sheep Production. Maddie Taylor placed 3rd in Agricultural Communications.  Cody Brooks placed 3rd in Veterinarian Science.  Clay Marlowe placed 2nd in Forestry. Justin Stone placed 2nd in Home and Community Development.  Ava Jane Teasley, Trace Larimer, and Emalee Green each received scholarships to attend the Washington Leadership Conference.

Within Agriscience Dos Haper placed 2nd with his project on Veroa Mites.  Daniel Phillips and Frank Holmes placed 3rd with their project on Drones and its ability to measure tree heights.  Zack Lister placed 3rd with his project on the how accurate is a drone to GPS.  

Alcovy, Eastside and Newton College and Career Academy were recognized at 100 percent membership chapters.  Alcovy and Eastside were ranked as Gold Emblem Chapters and NCCA received Silver.  Newton County also was recognized with a $2,000 check for selling the most raffle tickets for the Georgia FFA Foundation Lawnmower.  

The following FFA members received their State FFA Degree which is the highest degree bestowed upon on FFA member at the state level.  Jacob Bowen, Cody Brooks, Emma Bryant, Doster Harper, Jordan Lilly, Zach Lister, Clay Marlowe, Madison McCrorey, Dawson McIntrye, Emmalee Richardson, Breeonna Sheedy, Christopher Sullivan, Ryan Wilbanks, Robert Williamson, Nicole Leonetti, Emalee Green, Allen Miller, Andrew Massey, Rory Fisher, Caleb Sauls, Hannah Blackburn, Teonna Campbell, Haley Cunningham, Blakely, Cody Fountian, James Hamlin, Scotty Ladner, Matthew Layfield, Logan Myrick, Bradley Redmond, Jacob Spivey, Josh Starr, Dalton Tiller, Cody Turner, Dalton Johnson and Tyler Ledbetter.

Overall the 89th Georgia State FFA Convention was a huge success for Newton County FFA members.
