Friday, May 31 - Come to the Cabaret! Featuring two–time Grammy Award winner, Sylvia McNair. 7:30 p.m. concert in the Cultural Center Hall with a pre-concert dessert reception; $30. Emerald Sole Sponsor: Libby & Ben Hendricks
Saturday, June 1 - Four-Five-Six: An afternoon concert with the Amernet String Quartet and guest performers Michael Tree and Christopher Rex. 3 p.m. concert at the Steffen Thomas Museum of Art; $30.
Tuesday, June 4 - It’s All Grieg to Me! FREE family concert with David and Julie Coucheron, Christopher Rex and the Lee Harper Dancers. 10:30 a.m. bike parade; 11 a.m. concert in the Cultural Center’s Auditorium. An old-fashioned ice cream social on the Center’s front lawn follows the concert, compliments of The Caboose of Rutledge. Sponsored by Chick-fil-A, Inc.
Thursday, June 6 - Virtuoso Romantics: Award-winning violinist Chee-Yun is joined by Russian-born pianist Natasha Paremski for this evening concert. 7:30 p.m. Cultural Center Auditorium; $25. Sponsored by Janie & John Seglund
Friday, June 7 - Dixieland in the Park: Hotlanta Dixieland Jazz brings toe-tapping music straight from Bourbon Street in New Orleans to Madison’s Town Park. 7:30 p.m. FREE concert. This concert is in conjunction with Madison Main Street. Sponsored by Virgil P. Warren Foundation
Sunday June 9 -It Takes a Thief: Vega Quartet with guest pianist Will Ransom and cellist Christopher Rex present a unique concert line-up at Burge Plantation. 3 p.m. concert in the Conservatory; $25. Sponsored by Donna & Ralph Blanchard
Sunday, June 16 - Musical Sparks: We finish off our season with a spark, a bang and a special Sunday price! Violinist Susie Park joins pianist Elizabeth Pridgen, cellist Christopher Rex and violist Yang Yoon Kim. 5 p.m. concert in the Cultural Center Auditorium, $10. Sponsored by Sharon & Bill Ross
The 11th annual Madison Chamber Music Festival will open May 21 with a dinner concert at Town 220. This spectacular evening of music will feature “the world’s first classically-trained garage band,” Time for Three. These string players are versatile wonder boys; trained at Curtis Institute, they perform repertoire from Bach to Brahms to bluegrass, from original compositions to the Beatles. They have performed everywhere from Carnegie Hall to jazz clubs, and from European festivals to high profile sports events. This concert sponsored by Nancy and Steve Mauro will follow a buffet dinner at Madison’s popular Town 220 Restaurant. Doors open at 6 p.m. for ticket holders with dinner reservations and the concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. Dinner reservations through Town 220 are required. Call 706-752-1445 to make the reservations. Buffet dinner of $30 is not included in the concert ticket price. Tickets for the concert are $25 and can be purchased through the Madison-Morgan Cultural Center.
Beginning with the festival’s opening concert May 21 through the festival finale June 16, the 2013 festival will offer audiences the most diverse selection of performances by world-renowned musicians in its history. There will be some familiar faces joining the event this summer: violinist Susie Park, pianist Natasha Paremski, named 2010 Classical Recording Foundation’s Young Artist of the Year, David Coucheron, Atlanta Symphony Orchestra Concertmaster and Hotlanta Dixieland Jazz; as well as some new stars: two-time Grammy Award winner and regional Emmy Award winnerSylvia McNair, award-winning violinist Chee-Yun, one of today’s exceptional string quarters, Amernet String Quartet, legendary violist Michael Tree and the cutting edge Vega Quartet.
Since its start in 2003, the festival has been under the artistic direction of Christopher Rex, Principal Cellist of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, and has flourished to national recognition. Many of the concerts for the 2013 festival will take place in the Center’s historic auditorium, which offers excellent acoustics and intimate seating and most concerts include a reception with the performers. Five concerts are scheduled away from the Center in unique locations: Historic Bonar Hall, the Conservatory at Historic Burge Plantation, Madison Town Park, Steffen Thomas Museum and Town 220, one of Madison’s most popular restaurants.
Tickets are $25 for most concerts except Bonar Hall (SOLD OUT); Cabaret Concert is $30 and the Festival Finale is $10; students are $5. The Children’s Concert and the concert in Madison Town Park are absolutely FREE.
