Mary C. Rhodes

Mary C. Rhodes, 86, of Social Circle, died Nov. 3 at Newton Medical Center. The daughter of the late Howard Harrison Cottrell and Grace Margaret McKeag, she was born in 1921 in Chicago, Ill. Mrs. Rhodes was retired from C & S Bank where she worked in the bookkeeping department. She started sewing and making her own clothes at the age of 14 and continued throughout her life, even making her own patterns. She also enjoyed flower gardening, designing many elaborate flower beds with numerous different kinds of flowers. Mrs. Rhodes was a dedicated member of Mansfield Baptist Church where she gave many members hand sewn book marks for their Bibles. She was preceded in death by husband Roger S. Rhodes in 2001.

Surviving are sons Keith Rhodes of Lawrenceville, Doug Rhodes of Social Circle; daughter Barbara Laverdiere of Flowery Branch; son-in-law Bob Fyke of Springfield, Tenn.; grandchildren Michael, Sherry, Ryan, Shannon, Kim, Jenny, Kevin, Ashley, Lauren; great-grandchild Ethan.

Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 10, at Mansfield Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Jeff Perkins officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from 1 p.m. until the service on Saturday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Mansfield Baptist Church Building Fund, 101 Woodlawn Road, Mansfield.
