Mr. Luther "Socket" Wise died June 21. The son of the late Mr. William H. Peacock and Mrs. Elzora Peacock, he was born in 1935 in Jasper County. He was employed by William Brothers Lumber Company for many years. Mr. Wise joined Concord Baptist Church at an early age and later joined Pleasant View Baptist Church where he served on the Deacon Board overseeing the R.L. Curtis Young Adult Choir, driving members in his own van to and from church. Mr. Wise was in charge of ground maintenance at the church. Mr. Wise was preceded in death by sister Mrs. Betty Key and brother Mr. Hugh Wise.
Surviving are wife Mrs. Francies Wise; daughters Mr. and Mrs. Terrell (Mary) Cooper, Mr. and Mrs. Charlie (Alberta) Benton, Mr. and Mrs. Walter (Betty) Stokes, all of Covington, Mr. and Mrs. James (Barbara) Lovick of Newbern, N.C.; sons Mr. and Mrs. Grover (Nakita) Jackson of Jackson, Mr. and Mrs. Joe (Elnora) Wise of Atlanta; sister Mrs. Mary Marks of Monticello; brother Mr. Charlie Wise of Atlanta; aunt Mrs. Gussie Wise; sisters-in-law Mrs. Virginia McDowell, Mrs. Willie B. Stewart of Monticello, Ms. Martha Clark of Social Circle, Mrs. Annie Jones, Ms. Terry Clark of Covington; brothers-in-law Mr. Wilbur Clark of Atlanta, Mr. Willie Clark, Mr. Ben Jones of Monticello; 26 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends; devoted neighbors Mr. and Mrs. Johnny Strong, Ms. Lorraine Horton, Ms. Mary English.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. June 29 at Pleasant View Baptist Church with the Rev. Camile Holmes officiating. Interment followed in South View Cemetery, Monticello.
