Clara Mae Armistead

Mrs. Clara Mae Armistead, 81, a lifelong resident of Newton County, died Sept. 7. The daughter of the late Rufus Malon and Clifford Mae (Swords) Jackson, she was born in 1927. She worked for Covington Mills and later for Lithonia Lighting. Mrs. Armistead was preceded in death by husband Hubert Wayne Armistead Sr.

Surviving are daughter Cynthia Blackwell of Monroe; son Wayne Armistead of Covington; grandchildren Shawn Blackwell, Kristopher Armistead; four great-grandchildren; sister Sally Hawkins of Covington; and brother Wilson Jackson of Covington.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. today, Sept. 10, in the chapel of Wheeler Funeral Home with the Rev. Todd Heil officiating. Interment will follow at Covington Mill Cemetery.
