Sherwood Forest is back - and just in time for a frightfully fun Halloween.

The miniature golf and entertainment center, located at 1047 Flat Shoals Road near the intersection with Ga. Highway 138, had been shuttered for two and a half years until brothers Jeff and Jerry Lenz, of Social Circle and Conyers, purchased the property five months ago.

"We've always been in the entertainment industry," said Jeff Lenz. His family previously operated skating rinks, including one in Porterdale, and he and his brother had managed movie theaters for many years. "When we saw it was available, we jumped on it."

Since then, they've been hard at work restoring the 36 hole mini-golf course, arcade, and glow-in-the-dark bumper car attractions in time for the holiday months. Go Carts are next on the list, and they've also opened a special haunted forest just for Halloween.

"We want to get everything back up and running so people in Conyers have an alternative," said Jeff. "There's nothing left here to do if you don't want to see a movie."

The lower 18 golf holes have been transformed into a Camping Nightmare haunted forest, complete with a guided tour led by a "park ranger." Actors from Atlanta operate the haunted forest production on Fridays and Saturdays. On Sundays, children are given guided tours through the set for a Trick-or-Treat trail.

"(The Lenz brothers) are into decorating for the holidays. They go all out for every holiday," said Activities Director Darrell Edwards. He added that Sherwood Forest was aiming for families and younger children rather than young adults.

After October, the course will be transformed into a holiday themed "12 Days of Christmas" trail.
