The Salem Seminoles varsity baseball team capped off its regular season sweep of the Cedar Shoals Jaguars Monday night, downing the Jaguars 17-0 before topping Cedar Shoals 8-0 in the second game of a region doubleheader.
Rocky Mauriello picked up the win on the mound for the Seminoles in Salem’s 8-0 win, while Kevin Barham pitched an almost flawless four innings against the Jaguars in Salem’s 17-0 victory.
“We played really well in both games with great pitching starts from Kevin and Rocky,” Salem coach Chad Kitchens said. “We also did an excellent job with runners in scoring position in both games. I was proud of our team. We finish up the season with two against Loganville (and) Thursday is Senior Night with the festivities starting at 5:45 p.m.”
In Salem’s opening game, the Seminoles picked up multi-hit games from Jordan Scott, Jason Howell, Ryan Read and Ndiayemon Harrison, including a two hit performance from Scott that included a grand slam homer, giving the centerfielder four RBIs.
Harrison also finished with three RBIs while Read added two runs batted in.
Barham gave up just one hit and two walks in the 17-run win, striking out three batters in the process.
In Salem’s 8-0 win, the Seminoles’ Mauriello gave up just one hit in five innings of work, walking a batter while tallying eight strikeouts.
Cole Gibson joined Harrison with two hits apiece in the win, while Harrison and Akil Baddoo posted two RBIs apiece.
Salem returns to action Wednesday on the road at Loganville before hosting the Red Devils on Thursday.
