Gun laws focused on wrong things
To the editor: I attended the proposed Newton County gun ordinance public forum Monday night, and the speakers were overwhelmingly against it for good reason.
From my point of view, nothing in the new ordinance will do a thing to reduce the number of calls to the sheriff’s office.
They have already identified the area where they need to concentrate their efforts.
Roughly 90 percent of the gunfire calls are coming from 10 percent of the county.
The sheriff and the commissioners need to focus on the problem area.
In my opinion, a real solution is going to be far more complex than a stricter gun ordinance.
