Lighting the Courthouse

Newtonians of all ages came together last night for the annual lighting of the courthouse.

Despite the blustery weather, the holiday spirit was certainly evident. A visit from Santa Claus and the 4-H Rein Lambs, along with musical entertainment from the Newton County Community Band, Oxford Singing Children and Oxapella from Oxford College had the crowd brimming over with excitement. The evening was rounded out when community leader Rucker Ginn flipped the switch to light the Historic Courthouse officially opening the holiday season in Covington.

The Kiwanis Club of Covington was awarded with the presitigious 2011 Newton County Shining Lights recognition; Ginn, one of the club's longest serving members, was given the honor of lighting the courthouse.
