In memory of furry friends: Ric Burnette, the family service advisor with the Harwell-Wheeler Funeral Home and Cremation Chapel and the Wheeler Funeral Home and Crematory, presents a check for $100 to Betty Bellairs, chair of the Newton County Humane Society. The Wheeler-Harwell Funeral Home PETuary recently began offering a donation for each animal cremated at the PETuary and notifying families about the option of donating to the Humane Society in memory of their deceased pet. Burnette said the idea came to him during a Leadership Newton County visit to the Humane Society. "I noted a great need for funds," Burnette said. "I felt it’d be a great way for us to give back to the community." Bellairs added that people can also donate to the Humane Society in memory of a deceased human relative or friend who was an animal lover.
