The Covington Branch of the Newton County Library System opened today after being closed for a week and a half.
The Covington library closed Friday, Aug. 14 after an HVAC unit broke.

Since the afternoon of Aug. 14 the Porter Memorial Branch extended its hours, to accommodate patrons from the Covington location. Thursday both libraries resumed their normal hours.

The Covington branch needed a pump that circulates water into the system replaced. The pump was replaced earlier this week, and the HVAC units were run to cool the library back down before the doors could open.

Dr. Steve Whatley, Director of the Newton County Library Board said the fix is a band aid repair. In June, the Newton County Board of Commissioners approved a loan for the library system to replace the HVAC system but all the funds are yet to come in, and that change has not yet been made.

The Covington branch hours are Tuesday and Thursday 10 a.m.-8 p.m., Wednesday and Friday 10 a.m.-6 p.m. and Saturday 10 a.m.-2 p.m. The library is closed Sundays and Mondays.
