Sonwil Distribution has chosen the old SKC Inc. site on Alcovy Road as the site of its first warehouse in the Southeast.

COVINGTON, Ga. — Sonwil Distribution will open its first warehouse in the South in Newton County.

The 300,000-square-foot facility will be at 16126 Alcovy Road in Covington. It’s the former SKC Inc. location.

Sonwil is based in Buffalo, New York, with additional locations in New York, New Jersey, Nevada and Texas. The logistics solutions firm is family-owned, in its fourth generation.

“As a rapidly growing business with several trusted and longstanding customer relationships in the Southeastern market, we are excited to operate in one of the most dynamic economic regions in the country,” Peter G. Wilson, the president and CEO of Sonwil Distribution Center, said in a statement.

“Our company works with many of the world’s largest manufacturers across various industry verticals, and we look forward to more fully servicing one of our existing partners in the Atlanta area and Covington specifically.”

Wilson’s daughter Samantha A. Wilson will operate the Covington facility. She a great-granddaughter of the company’s founder, James E. Wilson.

The Covington location will include operational, office and ambient storage space, as well as multiple overhead dock doors and employee parking. It is a registered food grade/FDA facility and the company said it intends to obtain British Retail Consortium certification.

“The greater Atlanta metro area is an extremely strategic location for our operations,” Peter Wilson said.

“As a premier provider of food grate warehousing and distribution, our initial focus in this market will be to serve the current regional warehousing and distribution needs of a key long-term customer. Eventually, our attention will shift toward the establishment of additional capacity, in order to expand our service offerings to other companies operating, or planning to operate, in and around the wider region.”

The company’s history dates back more than 70 years.
