Inclement weather shifting basketball schedules

COVINGTON, Ga -- Although inclement weather in the form of snow didn't trigger a cancelation of classes or after school activities for Newton County Schools, it did shift somethings around for area basketball teams.

Both Eastside and Newton basketball teams Tuesday night games were postponed thanks to the closing of school and/or cancelation of activities in their opponents' respective school districts.

Eastside's girls and boys games slated for 6 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. tip-offs Tuesday night against Region 4-AAAA foe, Henry County will be postponed until Thursday January 31, same time and location. Meanwhile, Newton's scheduled Tuesday home games with Shiloh will be played Wednesday at Newton with girls beginning at 6 p.m. and boys scheduled for a 7:30 p.m. start, unless Wednesday cancelations happen for either school district.

Alcovy's Region 3-AAAAAA matchups at Grovetown will go on as originally scheduled.

A cold front system has brought snow in Georgia's higher elevations and a wintry mix of snow and rain in metro Atlanta with expected accumulation ranging anywhere from a dusting to 1.5 inches in and around metro Atlanta to 2-4 inches in the northern part of the state.

Additionally, temperatures are expected to plummet to below freezing this evening and likely through the night and into early Wednesday morning which could cause a freezing of any precipitation left on roadways once the snow and rain has passed.

Stay tuned to covnews.com for further weather related cancellation updates as they come.
