As a top 10 team in AAAA, Jonesboro girls \basketball showed Eastside why they're one of the best teams in the class with a 58-30 blowout win at Eastside’s gym.
Stifling zone defense from Jonesboro cut off all circulation in Eastside’s motion offense. The Lady Eagles didn't score until a layup from Sydney Mask at the 3:13 mark of the first quarter to make the score 6-2, Jonesboro.
The Lady Cardinals responded with an 8-0 run to force a timeout by Eastside down 14-2 late in the first. The Lady Eagles’ Destine Smith converted two free throws in the final seconds of the opening period to make it 14-4, Lady Cardinals.
Jonesboro jumped out to a 19-4 lead before Smith connected on a jumper.
Before you knew it, it was 26-6 with five minutes left in the first half. The Lady Cardinals would finish the half up 34-9.
The Lady Eagles start to the second half was much better than it was in the first. Eastside began the third with a 4-0 run and held Jonesboro scoreless until the 4:08 minute mark.
When Jonesboro finally did score they took the lid off the basket and extended their lead to 40-13 in less than one minute of play.
The Lady Cardinals would take a 46-19 lead into the final frame. The Jonesboro starters resting in the final frame made no difference in the Lady Eagle loss.
