Salem wins three straight

Rockdale missed out on its first Region 2-AAAAAA win by seconds Tuesday as Luella edged the Bulldogs 59-58 for a win.

The loss came days after Rockdale picked up a 63-61 win over Butler on Dec. 1.  The Bulldogs (2-3) looked for their first region victory at Lovejoy, in a game that finished after press time Friday.

Salem has now won three straight, all coming in Region 8-AAAAA. The Salem Seminoles opened region play with a 64-45 victory over Flowery Branch on Nov. 27, before beating Winder-Barrow 67-56 on Nov. 30 and then edging Loganville 72-63 Tuesday.

Salem played at Cedar Shoals Friday night.

Heritage picked up its first Region 8-AAAAA win of the season, beating Clarke Central 49-43 on Tuesday. The Patriots were at Loganville Friday night.

Salem currently leads Subregion B of 8-AAAAA with its 309 record. Cedar Shoals is behind them with two wins and zero losses, followed by Clarke Central, then Loganville and Heritage.

With just one region game played, Luella sits on top of 2-AAAAAA, followed by Lovejoy, Newton and Alcovy.

In girls’ basketball action, Rockdale won its second straight, beating Luella 49-42 on Tuesday. The win came after the Lady Bulldogs first win of the season, a 71-25 victory over Butler on Dec. 1

Rockdale traveled to Lovejoy Friday looking to extend its streak, scoring 57.8 points per game, while giving up 52.5.

Heritage is yet to find a win in girls basketball, after losing to Clarke Central 57-42 on Tuesday. Heritage has also fallen to Cedar Shoals, 62-35, in region play on Nov. 30 and was beat by Chestatee 48-28 on Nov. 24.

Rockdale leads Region 2-AAAAAA, followed by Alcovy, also with just one win and zero losses. Newton is the only other 2-AAAAAA team with a region victory, as Lovejoy and Luella are the two with one loss each.

Salem and Heritage are both at the bottom of subregion B of 8-AAAAA with Cedar Shoals and Clarke Central on top.
