Anonymous donor to match contributions

Rockdale Cares is hosting its 30th annual fundraising event with a fiesta on July 31, and there is double a reason to celebrate for the non-profit organization.

This year as the community donates money, each dollar will be matched by an anonymous donor up to $33,000.

"We have had a generous donor promise to match dollar for dollar all money we raise up to $33,000," event organizer Diane Davis said.

The anonymous donor will match all moneys through the eveing, which starts at 6:30 p.m. at Acuity Brands Lighting. The evening will be a fiesta theme featuring dinner a silent auction, jewelry sales a raffle and a mariachi band.

Among the auction items are a big screen television, fine jewelry, dishes and dinners at Chianti and Borage Grill.

All proceeds from the dinner and auction will go to the respite service provided at Haven House for children and adults with developmental disabilities. The respite home gives a chance for caretakers to take a break from what is normally a round-the-clock job of caring for their loved ones.

With the economy in a tougher position, the people who run Rockdale Cares know it's a difficult time to get donations, and are pleased that this year a one dollar donation will count as two thanks to the anonymous donor.

"It's a tough time for people to reach in to their pockets," said Dave Buser, board president of Rockdale Cares. "We had a generous person step up with a contribution up to $30,000, and we hope people recognize that their dollar will mean two dollars. And that's important in today's economy."
