The jewel of the Rockdale County crown just got brighter this past week.

Rockdale Career Academy opened up its new wing dedicated to the education of future public safety students with a visit from the who's who of Georgia public education this past Wednesday.

Joining in the ribbon cutting ceremonies were state superintendent of schools Dr. John Barge, Lt Gov. Casey Cagle and the new president of Georgia Piedmont Technical College Dr. Jabari Simama.

All three spoke in glowing terms about the accomplishments of the students and the school staff, led by Dr. Miki Edwards and nurtured by the school board and the administration of Rockdale Superintendent Richard Autry.

We were impressed by the bright faces and attitudes of the student welcoming committee who were there to guide the many community leaders who attended.

We are fortunate to have a school like our Career Academy. It's a testimony to the will of the people of Rockdale County who not only talk about having good schools but put their efforts behind ensuring that we do.
