New summer programs offered at Johnson Park
Archery, youth leadership, basketball camp offered

The Rockdale County Department of Recreation and Maintenance is hosting new programs, which will begin in May and continue throughout the summer. Events, which include an archery camp, spa services and a youth leadership and sports camp for boys, will be held at the Johnson Park Recreation Center, 1781 Ebenezer Road and at the Rockdale Government Annex Building, 1400 Parker Road.

An archery camp for boys and girls ages 10 and up will be held on the grounds of the Rockdale Government Annex. The camp will teach students how to perform target archery and the fundamentals of shooting. The Georgia Archery Association will provide each camper with all the needed equipment.

The camp is set for July 27 through 31, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The cost of the camp is $80 per camper and lunch is not included.

Beginning May 28, Heaven Sent Fingers will offer spa services at the Johnson Park Recreation Center. A licensed, professional staff will provide massages, body treatments, facials and nail care. Services will be available on Thursdays and Fridays from 6 to 7 p.m.

Available treatments include a hot stone massage, therapeutic massage, and healing sands manicure and pedicure. Costs range from $25 to $70. A package also is available for $105.

The first annual youth leadership development and sports camp for boys will be offered at Johnson Park June 29 through July 2, 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The camp is open to seventh to 10th grade boys only.
Campers will be taught offense and defensive fundamentals of the game of basketball and play two games each day. Additionally, campers will have class discussions on topics such as How to Be the Impact Player Coaches Notice, Developing Vital Leadership Skills and Anger Management All campers will receive a T-shirt, leadership books and prizes. Each camper must bring his own lunch, sports drinks and towel.
