GPC Picnic Pops Concert May 5

Officials at Georgia Perimeter College's Covington campus are encouraging local residents to bring a picnic dinner to the college at 7 p.m. Saturday to enjoy an evening outside listening to the DeKalb Symphony Orchestra for free.

The fifth annual Picnic Pops Concert will be held at the campus' plaza and attendees are encouraged to bring a picnic, blankets and chairs. The concert is expected to last an hour and a half, though the playlist had been kept "under wraps" by Conductor Fyodor Cherniavsky, according to the orchestra's office manager Elizabeth Rice.

The DeKalb Symphony has been giving free concerts for 40 years, but has only been coming to Newton County for the last five years, Rice said, nothing that the orchestra felt Georgia Perimeter College was an ideal location to reach out to the greater area community.

Attendees are encouraged to come early to get a good seat; the college is located at 239 Cedar Lane, Covington. For more information, call (678) 891-3565.
