George A. Owens, Jr., age 87, of Conyers, died Monday, June 6, 2011.  Mr. Owens was a Lt. in the Army Air Forces and a pilot of the B-24 during WWII, former commander of American Legion Post 77, former Rockdale County Fire Chief, former Conyers City Councilman and Mayor of Conyers.  He was owner of Walker-Owens Furniture Co., co-owner of Conyers Manufacturing Co., original co-owner of the Trading Center, and Director of the First Bank of Conyers.  Mr. Owens was a member of First Baptist Church of Conyers and an avid golfer who played all over the world.  He is survived by his wife of 67 years on June 4, 2011, Sue Rice Owens; daughters, Gail O. Jordan, Maryland, Deborah O. & Roy Skinner, Conyers; grandchildren, Harvey & Kelly Jordan, Cynthia & Frank Dolan, Stacey & Corey Brantley, Holly & Brian Battle, Ashley Edwards; great-grandchildren, Gavin Brantley, Gracen Brantley, Trinity Edwards, Harrison Jordan, Zoie Edwards, Dayton Brantley, Maddie Dolan, Kate Jordan, Lillie Dolan; several nieces & nephews.  Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 9, 2011 at Scot Ward’s Green Meadow Chapel at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Reese Sanders officiating; interment will follow at East View Cemetery.  The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and Thursday from 10:00 to11:00 a.m.  Those desiring may make contributions to the Rockdale County Fire Department, 1496 Rockbridge Road NW, Conyers, GA  30012 Memo: Restoration of 1951 Fire Truck In Memory of George A.
