Business Spotlight: Building community one wing at a time

With spicy wings and a chance to win thousands of dollars, there’s plenty to scream about at Hotlanta Wings in Conyers.

Aurangzeb Khan bought the franchise located on 2020 Eastside Drive over a year ago from former owner and current employee Kathy Hasting.

One of eight other Georgia stores, this location offers beer, a drive-through and Keno and the Georgia Lottery.

"It’s something you can do while eating your wings," Hasting said. "We’re just trying to do a different concept."

Hotlanta Wings will also offer catering and delivery sometime in May.

Hasting sold the business in September 2009 to spend more time with her nine grandchildren, and Khan took over to try and provide for his two young children, who now attend Peek’s Chapel Elementary School.

"I bought this place for a better future for my kids," Khan said.

Khan, who has also owned another restaurant, a school and a computer business in Pakistan, likes the food service business both for its profitability and importance in the community.

"Everybody wants to eat," Khan said. "That’s the best way to serve people."

He is also in the process of buying a Shane’s Rib Shack in Barnesville but is still focused on using Hotlanta Wings to enhance the Conyers’ community.

"We believe in customer service. The happier my customers are, the happier I am," Khan said.

"If I can make people happy, that’s all you can do as a human being."

The wing restaurant is open seven days a week, from 11 a.m. until 9:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 11 a.m. until 10:30 p.m. on Saturday and 11 a.m. until 8 p.m. on Sunday.
