Burnham: Whom we worship we must serve

Whom we worship we must serve.

Wait; don’t move on until you read that one more time.

Whom we worship we must serve.

Think about it. We know three things to be true — First, the devil is real; second, the devil is not a little red man running around with horns and pitch folk; third, while the devil is knowledgeable, strong, and very cunning, he cannot make (force) us do anything.

But that doesn’t stop him from trying to tempt us with the very things most attractive to us. So when we are weak, we can expect an attack. If we fend him off, we can expect another attack, when he seems to have left, we can be assured he will return.

Having said all this we know one more thing: Whom we worship we must serve — what we worship is what we put first in our lives: “Jesus answered, ‘It is written: Worship the Lord your God and serve him only.”’ Luke 4:8 Who are you worshipping and serving today?
