The Newton County Board of Commissioners made a prudent decision last week.
They showed that they are watching our tax dollars with practicality. They reviewed all of the possible cuts that would have to be made and were prepared to make them; they also realized in September the first round of property taxes are due. Our elected officials are hoping this first round of tax revenues will put them on the plus side and that major cuts will not have to be made at this time.
Their optimism that the good ship Newton County is righted and in full sail will hopefully be infectious and justified.
We also know they are ready to cut if necessary so an added tax burden is not placed on the homeowners of Newton County, and we are glad they have devised a plan B.
