Robert H. Hawkins, of Covington, died May 14, 2009, at Abbey Hospice, at the age of 87. Son of the late Jessie Clarence and Mamie Stapp Hawkins, he was a member of Grace Baptist Church. Mr. Hawkins enjoyed fishing, traveling to Florida and to the mountains, vegetable gardening, and working on cars. He was preceded in death by his sister and brothers, Lena Mae Hawkins Vining, Clarence (Jack) Hawkins, and Charley (Billy) Hawkins. Survivors include his wife, Allie B. Hawkins of Covington; brothers and sister-in-law, Johnny Hawkins of Carrollton, Alvin and Martha Hawkins of Covington; two special nieces, Faye B. Ray, Shirley (Strange) Cooper; several nieces, nephews and friends. Funeral services for Mr. Hawkins will be held on Saturday, May 16, 11:00 AM, at the Access Rd chapel of Caldwell & Cowan, with Rev. Harold Henderson officiating, and interment following in Lawnwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, May 15, from 5-8 PM.
