Dorothy Owenby Harden, age 87, of Monticello, died Saturday at The Retreat Nursing Home in Monticello.
"Dot" Harden was born in the Buckhead Community of Madison to the late James Lester Owenby and Ethel Sutton Owenby. She lived in Lithonia for a number of years before moving to Monticello in 1974. She was a member of the Prospect United Methodist Church. Before retirement in 1972, Dot was a supervisor for the Southern Bell Company. She was a member of the Pioneers and former secretary for the Jasper County Chamber of Commerce. Son, Frank McCart preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by five brothers, James Owenby, Orville Owenby, Eugene Owenby, Lester Owenby, and George Owenby; and six sisters, Gladys Turner, Lucy Mayfield, Mary Johnson, Kathleen Mumpower, Ethel Sanders, and Hazel Duke.
She is survived by her husband, Robert Clayton "Bob" Harden, Sr. of Monticello; children and spouses, Linda and Warren James of Sparta, Terry McCart of Monticello, Robert C. Jr. and Alla Harden of Lawrenceville, Debbie and Robert Baker of Cohutta, and Kevin Harden of Monticello; grandchildren, Christie Kenney, Michael James, Katie Selph, Bo Harden, Eliza Whiteman, Austin Baker, Isabella Harden, and Trey Duval; great grandchildren, Tommy Marshall, Jonathan James, Robert James, Jennifer James, Aidan Selph, Ava Whiteman, Eathan Whiteman, Cara Whiteman, Sam Baker, and Lilly Baker; great, great grandchildren, T. J. Marshall, Christopher Marshall, and Arinna Marshall; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held Monday at the Chapel of Jordan Funeral Home in Monticello. Rev. Layne Jenkins will officiate.
