A woman and her 10-year-old son were killed Friday evening when they collided with another driver on Ga. Highway 11 in Social Circle.

According to the Georgia State Patrol, the accident occurred around 7:02 p.m. The area is not well-lit and the accident is being blamed on heavy snow and the beginning accumulation of ice on the roadways.

Bridgette Gibbs was driving a Toyota 4Runner and GSP reported that she lost control of her vehicle and travelled into the lane of a man driving a Chevrolet Silverado. Her vehicle, which was traveling north, was struck and after rotating, both she and the other driver, who was traveling south, ended up sliding off the roadway.

Bridgette was killed instantly; her son was transported to Walton Regional Medical Center. He later died.
