The national weather service in Peachtree City has issued a winter storm warning for heavy snow, which is in effect until 4 a.m. Saturday. The winter weather advisory is no longer in effect.

The storm system responsible for the winter weather is tracking across the northern Gulf of Mexico and continues to increase in intensity. Snowfall will continue across much of north and central Georgia through the afternoon and into the evening. Roadways across the area are becoming slick and hazardous and conditions are expected to deteriorate as temperatures fall.

Accumulations of 2 to 4 inches are expected across areas north of Abbeville to Swainsboro and south of Summerville to Blairsville by the time the snow ends this evening.
