The National Weather Service has issued a Significant Weather Advisory for Newton County, cautioning that heavy rain and wind to 35 mph are expected in the area.
The advisory was issued at 11:50 a.m..
Heavy rain and thunderstorms are expected through the day. Up to an inch of rain is likely during the day, then up to a half-inch on Wednesday night.
Since January, the area has received 8.38 inches of precipitation, about 80 percent of average for the first two months of a year. Rainfall has averaged about 20 percent below average for the past year, according to georgiaweather.net.
The high for Wednesday will be about 66, with an overnight low of 49. The forecast calls for sun Thursday through Saturday. The high Thursday will be about 57, then rebound to 70 for Saturday and Sunday.
