A mother and her boyfriend were arrested Tuesday by Conyers Police in connection with the death of the woman's child, 3-year-old Edna Figueroa.

Yaneth DeLaCruz Alvarez, 21, was charged with cruelty to children in the second degree. Her boyfriend, Raul Solis, 20, was charged with murder and cruelty to children in the first degree.

The couple had brought the child on Saturday to the Rockdale Medical Center Emergency Room. Edna was unconscious, unresponsive and having difficulty breathing. Upon examination, the toddler  was found to be suffering from extensive brain hemorrhaging.

Edna was taken to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston, where she died on Sunday from her injuries.

Investigators determined that the child's injuries were caused by shaking and impacts to her head. Solis later made admissions to shaking the child while she was misbehaving. Alvarez was charged in connection with her failure to supervise her child, which contributed to the child's death.
