A former Indian Creek Middle School teacher was arrested Nov. 19 in Clarke County, after reportedly pretending a Taser was his penis outside of an Athens bar.
Meredith Grayson Watson, 44, whose address is in Athens, was charged with disorderly conduct and public intoxication around 2:30 p.m. outside an Athens bar.
Reports from the Athens-Clarke County Police Department indicate they were called to the bar by the bartender, who reported that Watson was using his Taser inside the bar. When they arrived, Watson was sitting at the bar. Officers spoke with him and he reportedly denied having a Taser. Another bar patron had taken it from him already and gave it to officers.
According to reports, Watson "cooperated, but his actions were very slow and he was unsteady on his feet. His breath smelled of an alcoholic beverage and his speech was slurred. He appeared to be very intoxicated and under the influence of drugs."
The bartender told officers that Watson had come into the bar with his wife, who she said was a "regular and a good customer," but that she had never seen Meredith Watson before. She told officers that she overheard the couple arguing about "him being high and that he up in jail," prior to the wife leaving the bar.
She told officers that Watson went after his wife but then returned to the bar alone and continued drinking. At one point, she said he pulled a Taser out and was setting it off at the bar, and that he also went outside the bar, put the Taser down his pants and was acting like it was his penis, shocking it at people who would walk by. Although Watson refused to take ownership of the Taser, officers had enough evidence to place him under arrest.
According to Newton County School System's Director of Public Relations Sherri Davis-Viniard, "Mr. Watson is no longer an employee of Newton County Schools. After the incident, he submitted his resignation and it has been accepted." was going to end
