A beautiful day complemented the fun had by all at the 19th Annual Cherry Blossom Charity Croquet Tournament at Legion Field Saturday. The Heartland Woman’s Club hosted the event to raise funds for Covington YMCA, Habitat for Humanity of Newton County and Project ReNeWal.
The games began at 10 a.m. Saturday as two-person teams took the field for competition. Each team competed in three round-robin rounds before breaking for lunch and to cool off in the shade of the pavilion. Once the championship bracket was posted, teams returned to the field to compete for the first place trophy.
To end the tournament, individuals competed in a Sticky Wicket Contest, which tested the players’ croquet skill in accuracy and distance, as well as a Croquet-a-thon, which tested the players’ skill with a series of shots varying in difficulty. Participants received drawing tickets and a chance at door prizes provided by local businesses.
