A former Georgia College and State University professor is awaiting court sentence after pleading guilty on Nov. 18 to charges of obscene Internet contact and electronically furnishing obscene materials to a minor.

Frank Evans Thompson Jr. was arrested in February following an investigation that began in late-2009. He was initially charged with sexual exploitation of children, electronically furnishing obscene material to a minor and the computer pornography and child exploitation act of 2007.

The 73-year-old Thompson reportedly chatted with someone he believed was a female in her early teens several times in a chat room, as well as allegedly masturbated on a web cam.

For the obscene Internet contact charge, Thompson could receive 10 years probation, with the first 180 days to be served at the Newton County Jail, and for furnishing obscene material he could be sentenced to 12 months probation to run concurrent. However, sentencing has been delayed for two weeks.

Along with probation and jail time, he also faces several thousand dollars in fines and will be placed on the sex offender registry.

Thompson remains in the Newton County Jail.
