MONROE, Ga. — One person died in a local crash over the Christmas weekend, state troopers said.

Details were not immediately available, but the Georgia Department of Public Safety said Monroe-based Post 46 worked a crash with a fatality over the four-day weekend.

Overall, 16 people died across the state as of 6 p.m. Tuesday.

Post 46 serves Newton, Rockdale and Walton counties.
