A passenger vehicle caught on fire around 4 p.m. Monday on Interstate 20 near the Almon Road exit, but there were no injuries and the fire was contained shortly after firefighters arrived on the scene, said Brad Stapp, Newton County Fire Deputy Chief.

Rockdale County Fire and Rescue spokesman Michael Morris said Rockdale sent one engine to assist; the fire was only in the engine compartment when firefighters arrived, and they were popped the hood to help extinguish it.
