A 3-year-old was reportedly raped Saturday and a 19-year-old man was arrested on multiple charges in connection with the assault, according to the Newton County Sheriff's Office.

Brandon Arnold of Shenandoah Drive was held Monday in the Newton County Dentention Center on felony charges of rape, child molestation and aggravated child molestation, according to jail records.

The toddler was asleep in a bedroom at a residence and her mother, who was visiting there, went in to check on her and determined that the child had been assaulted, according to Lt. Tyrone Oliver, a spokesman for the sheriff's office.

The mother called 911 and investigating deputies arrested Arnold.
