T. Pat Cavanaugh, general manager of The Covington News and publisher of The News serving Rockdale County, has been named publisher of The Covington News.

He succeeds Charles Hill Morris Jr.

Cavanaugh began his newspaper career in Annapolis, Md., working his way up from the circulation department to become a publisher in 16 years. He has published papers across the United States, and with his wife, Molly, owned his own weekly publication in Los Alamitos, Calif., for seven years. He has received numerous awards for community service and professional achievement and has served on the boards of the Rotary Club, Chamber of Commerce, Boys and Girls Clubs, Salvation Army, and the Red Cross.

He points with pride to the three Special Olympics programs that he has spearheaded.

Cavanaugh and his wife of 30 years, Molly, came to Newton County 5½ years ago. They reside in Newton County, in a home that has adjoining property in Rockdale County.

Morris said, "My family and I have really enjoyed living in Newton County for the past 8½ years and are moving to Atlanta to pursue additional business opportunities.’’

Morris will remain active with the newspaper and Morris Multimedia, Inc.
