After a year’s hiatus, they’re getting ready to make music again at the Newborn Opry.

The Opry reopens with a gospel music concert at 5 p.m. on Oct. 2. The concert series, which begins its 11th year, is held in the old Newborn Schoolhouse. The building was closed for a year for roof repair, according to Bob Thompson, an Opry organizer.

Thompson noted that barbecue, hotdogs and snacks are available for the family-friendly shows, which are popular for seniors.

"People missed that thing," he said. "It would be a social affair as well as entertainment."

The Opry offers low or no-concert gospel concerts on first Saturdays and country and bluegrass performances on third Saturdays.

The lineup for Oct. 2 includes Don Elrod and Georgia, Vessels of Praise quartet, Mark Fuller, Logan Smith and Drew Parker. Admission is $7 and the concert will begin at 5 p.m.

Concerts are usually staged at 6 p.m.

For Oct. 16, the lineup includes The David Abels Band and the Newborn Opry staff band and entertainers. Admission is $3
