A 41-year-old Covington mother was arrested Wednesday after her child’s teacher noticed extensive marks on his body.

The Newton County Department of Family and Children Services went to the home of Paige Adrianna Blalock after her 5-year-old son’s teacher noticed multiple bruises and scabs covering the child’s back.

Cortney Morrison, Newton County Sheriff’s Office Public Information Officer, said that Blalock allegedly admitted to spanking the boy with a belt about a week before.

Blalock was arrested and charged with first degree cruelty to children.
