An armed robbery occurred at the Almon Road Chevron Saturday morning, according to the Newton County Sheriff’s Office.

At 9 a.m., a black male entered the Chevron demanding money, said the NCSO. The suspect then struck the male clerk in the head multiple times with a hammer before taking the cash register and fleeing the store on foot.

According to the NCSO, the suspect drove on Interstate-20 eastbound in a white pick up truck.

The clerk has been taken to a local hospital with head trauma.
