Johnny Allen Smith, 64, was killed March 5, when his Capes Drive residence caught on fire.

According to Captain Rob Christopher with the Covington Fire Department, a call came into the department around 2:40 p.m. from a neighbor of Smith’s who reported that he believed Smith’s apartment was on fire since there was smoke inside of his home.

When firefighters arrived, they immediately noticed a large amount of smoke coming from Smith’s residence. After making entry into the home, they found Smith in the front room (living room) of the house. The fire also appeared to have been confined to that room, with the rest of the home only suffering smoke damage.

The cause of the fire remains unknown and is currently under investigation.
