The 49th Annual Little Mr. and Miss Newton County Pageant was a great success last Saturday with 10 beautiful little girls and six handsome young men competing for the crowns in the Alcovy High School auditorium. Colorful ice cream cone balloons decked the stage as part of the "Ice Cream Dreams! Kids Scream for Ice Cream" theme this year.
To begin the program, Little Mr. and Miss Newton County 2009, Mr. Austin Wilson and Miss Cali Smith, were introduced and welcomed with applause followed by the 2010 contestant introductions. For the talent portion of the contest, the "Spice Swirl Girls" and "Oreo Speedwagon Boys" sang, danced, and acted to impress the judges. The competition concluded with a question and answer session where the boys and girls joined Master of Ceremony Ernie Smith in the center of the stage to answer questions about their hobbies, pets, and friends.
While judges Robin and John Anglin and Reywa and Tony Cammon deliberated, Miss Cali Smith and Mr. Austin Wilson provided a few minutes of entertainment. When the judges returned, Anslie Cook and Antonio Shy, Jr. were presented with trophies for best talent and Niya White and Brett Binns were awarded runners-up. Teagen John, who was crowned Little Miss Newton County 2010, was so shocked when her name was called that she excitedly ran off stage before receiving her trophy. Roysten McGuire, who was crowned Little Mr. Newton County 2010, smiled from ear to ear when he was called to centerstage to receive his trophy.
