Kindergarten round-up this week

Newton County School System will hold its annual Kindergarten Round-Up during the week of May 4- May 7. Children must be 5 years old by Sept. 1, 2015 (child must have been born on or before September 1, 2010) to register for the 2015-2016 school year. Parents should bring the prospective kindergarten student with them to the roundup so teachers can conduct screenings with the children.

At the time of registration, parents must provide their child’s social security card, certified birth certificate, immunization record form #3231, and hearing, vision and dental screening record form #3300. 

In addition, parents must also provide two proofs of residence as follows—one from each of the two categories below:

Category 1: Utility bill with name and address (only garbage, electric, water, or gas will be accepted.)

                AND

Category 2:  Current lease, rental agreement, or current mortgage statement.

Should the child not live with one or both parents, guardianship or custody documents will be required.

Each of the school system’s fourteen elementary schools has designated one day during the week for kindergarten registration. School registration dates are as follows:

Middle Ridge, Flint Hill, Porterdale                                                           Monday, May 4

East Newton, Rocky Plains, Oak Hill                                                          Tuesday, May 5

Live Oak, Mansfield, South Salem, Fairview                                         Wednesday, May 6

Heard-Mixon, Livingston, West Newton                                                                Thursday, May 7

Hours of registration are 8:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.

Parents who are unable to register on the designated day at their home school may register at one of the other elementary schools per the schedule above.
