The Covington Fire Department is expanding its community outreach with an Explorer Program, open to young men and women 15-20 interested in the Fire/Medical fields as a career.

The program will offer hands on training and knowledge in these areas. Explorers will be taught skills such as fire suppression, vehicle extrication, CPR and first responder, among many other skills needed for a future career in the fire service.

This program is overseen by the Boy Scouts of America using local professionals to teach the cadets the knowledge and skills to help them achieve their career goals.

The explorers will meet every Tuesday from 6 p.m.-9 p.m. at Covington Fire Station 2 at 11234 Alcovy Road. The first meeting will be May 13 at 6 p.m. This will be an informational meeting for cadets and parents to explain the program and let them know what it is for.
