NEWTON COUNTY, Ga. - Steven Rhodes filed his resignation with Newton County Chairman Marcello Banes March 7 and announced his intention to run for the District 2 Board of Commissioners seat. 

"I would like to extend my sincere appreciation to you for allowing me the opportunity to serve on the Recreation Commission Board these last eight months," he wrote in the resignation letter. "However, at this time I am tendering my resignation effective immediately. 

"I have decided to take this opportunity to focus on my campaign in seeing election to the District 2 Board of Commissioners seat."

The District 2 BOC seat is currently held by Democrat Lanier Sims.
