COVINGTON, Ga. - Newton County Water Resources provides award-winning quality water to the residents of Newton County.

The department received the Gold Award from the Georgia Association of Water Professionals recently. The award was given for meeting all state and federal regulations in 2016. Both the Cornish Creek and Williams Street facilities combined to perform more than 220,000 tests a year, ensuring high quality of water delivered to the customers’ taps.

Water resources employees continuously test for chlorine, Iron, Manganese, pH levels, Turbidity, Alkalinity, Phosphate, TOC and Coliform.

This is the first time Newton County has applied for this award, which is given to any plant in Georgia that has not had a violation of any kind during the year. Newton County now strives for the Platinum Award, which is given to facilities with five or more violation-free years.

“All employees of Water Resources and other departments in the Newton County had a vital role in our continued efforts to provide the safest and best quality drinking water and the most economical price,” said James Brown, Newton County Water Resources Director. “To the citizens of Newton County, Walton County and Jasper County that staff is very committed and dedicated in producing safe drinking water 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year.”
