Covington-area woman hurt in crash
Monroe police ask for public's help in Tuesday night incident
Monroe Police

MONROE, Ga. — A local woman was hurt in a crash and police are looking for answers as to how and why.

Monroe police said 17-year-old Mackenzie Dawn Howard got out of a truck she was riding in Tuesday night on Breedlove Drive not far from downtown Monroe.

Keith Glass, the city’s director of public safety, called it a “sad situation” Wednesday morning.

Howard has a Covington address inside Walton County.

A 17-year-old Sugar Hill man was driving the truck at the time of the incident.

A Facebook page that appeared to belong to Howard said she was in a relationship with the man police said was the driver.

Police officers performed CPR on Howard until Monroe Fire Department paramedics arrived to relieve them. Howard was transported to Piedmont Walton, then flown to Emory Healthcare for further treatment.

An Emory Healthcare spokeswoman said she had no record of Howard at either of two hospitals in the system Wednesday morning.

Police said their investigation is ongoing. If you have information, contact Detective Darryll Powell at dpowell@monroega.gov, 678-858-0094 or 770-267-7576.
