Construction worker killed on I-20 on Saturday

A worker was killed at the construction zone of Interstate 20 westbound in Rockdale Saturday when a dump truck reportedly backed over him.

Approximately 9:33 p.m., troopers responded to a fatal motor vehicle crash involving a dump truck and a pedestrian on I-20 WB at mileage marker 84 in Rockdale County.

A dump truck was backing east in the westbound lanes, in unison with other equipment. A worker walked south behind the truck and was struck, causing him to become lodged under the undercarriage.

He was pronounced dead on scene.

All names are being withheld pending next-of-kin notification.

Georgia State Patrol is handling the investigation and SCRT is assisting in the investigation.

No alcohol and/or drugs are suspected to be a factor in the crash.
