A 13-year-old boy was found sleeping on a porch in a Covington neighborhood the evening of Oct. 9. He reportedly told the homeowner he was there because he was scared to go home where he was being abused.

The homeowner called deputies from the Newton County Sheriff’s Office who met with the teen. After an investigation at the home he lived at, they arrested his family member (and caretaker) Terry Montez Jackson, 29, and charged him with first degree cruelty to children and false imprisonment. The child was removed from the home by children’s services.

Jackson was taken to the Newton County Jail, where he remains.
