Join Rusty and his band, Ring of Fire, as they perform Cash's classic hits - "Ring of Fire," "I Walk the Line," "Sea of Heartbreak," "Big River," "Folsom Prison Blues" and many more.
"He sounds incredibly a lot like Johnny Cash," said Marketing Director Michelle Bryant Johnson. "He should be quite appealing to Johnny Cash fans."
Evans had been a fan of Cash's music from the start, but was a rockabilly and folk singer before he ever began performing country songs. In fact, it wasn't until a then unknown musician made a suggestion during Evans' days as a folksinger in Greenwich Village that he realized the vocal similarities.
"When (Bob) Dylan heard me sing, he just felt that my voice sounded that way," said Evans.
Evans formed the Ring of Fire band with his son Danny Evans 10 years ago and has been traveling and singing Cash's songs ever since.
"It suits me very well. I love it," he said. "I've been very happy carrying the torch for the American icon and really putting our own spin on Johnny Cash material."
The concert will begin at 8 p.m. at Porter Hall in Newton High School. Admission is $22 for adults, $19 for seniors, and $10 for students.
An acoustic guitar and starter kit will also be raffled during the event to raise funds. Tickets are $5.
